How far in advance should I book a harpist?

Our customers currently book harpists an average of 5.5 months in advance. For peak Saturdays between May and September it’s worth booking earlier to ensure the best choice.

What parts of a wedding can a harpist play?

Harpists are most commonly booked to perform during your wedding ceremony, drinks reception or wedding breakfast. For the ceremony, they can play as your guests arrive, for your walk down the aisle, while you sign the register and as you make your exit. Many bookings then continue into the drinks reception or wedding breakfast, giving you live music while photographs are taken, guests mingle or everyone sits down to eat.

What music does a wedding harpist play?

You're not restricted to just classical music, with most wedding harpists performing a mix of classical, traditional celtic, contemporary rock and pop, film and TV music, jazz and easy listening. The repertoire for each haripst can be found on their profile page.

Can a harpist play a special song for my wedding?

Often, yes - although there will sometimes be a small extra charge if they have to learn a new song from scratch. If you have a particular song in mind for your entrance, register signing or exit, check whether your chosen harpist already performs it by reviewing the repertoire on their profile page. Whether a bespoke arrangement costs extra varies between performers, so mention your request when you enquire.

How long will a harpist perform for?

Most harpists are booked to perform for two hours, and this is usually split between the wedding ceremony and drinks reception. They will play as guests arrive, for your entrance, register signing and exit. They will then usually relocate to perform another hour during your drinks reception or wedding breakfast. For parties and corporate events, individual harpists may offer more traditional 2 x 45 minute or 2 x 60 minute sets with breaks. Check each profile for the options available.

Can a harpist perform outdoors?

Yes - our harpists can perform outdoors provided the harp can be properly protected. Harps are delicate instruments, so your performer will normally need a dry, sheltered area protected from rain, wind and strong direct sunlight. A full-size concert harp also needs a firm, level surface, so an uncovered lawn or gravel area is unlikely to be suitable. Tell us about an outdoor plan when you enquire so they can confirm exactly what is required.

How much space and access does a harpist need?

A full-size concert harp needs approximately 2m x 2m of performance space, together with room for the harpist to sit comfortably. Access matters too because the instrument is large, heavy and delicate. Nearby unloading, suitable doorways and a clear route from the vehicle to the performance area are ideal, so let your artist know about stairs, narrow corridors or difficult parking in advance.

Does a harpist need amplification or power?

Not usually. A harp should be loud enough acoustically (without amplification) for most wedding ceremonies, drinks receptions and smaller indoor events, while some performers offer amplification for larger spaces, outdoor settings or busier receptions. Requirements vary by artist and instrument, so check the individual profile before arranging power or PA equipment.

What happens if my harpist has to cancel?
