The Complete Stone Roses are without doubt one of the most
exciting tribute bands around today and judging from the
reaction to them from their live audiences, they seem to
have captured a magical era that music fans persistently
want to return to. The band was formed in 1998 by Scottish
Promotions Company MPL and since then have grown to become
not only the official tribute to the band, but also the
biggest. Time after time, the band leave audiences stunned
with their accuracy, so much so that other named acts and
band members in the UK music scene today have been unable
to resist the urge to check them out. Word of a good band
spreads like wild fire.
The
Stone Roses were in many peoples' eyes the changing force
of the music industry at the time and as such inspired many
of the biggest and greatest bands of today. The fact that
they split up does not change the fact that their music
is timeless - try telling thousands of fans, who have been
part of the magic created by 'The Complete Stone Roses'
shows. Think any differently and you are likely to be told
that you're too old and out of touch. Even today, ten years
on, Stone Roses albums are still selling by the bucket load,
remixes and so on. When the band toured with former Stone
Roses bassist Mani during last year, sales of the Stone
Roses album 'The Complete Stone Roses' shot straight back
into the charts. Coincidence? Don't think so.
'The
Complete Stone Roses' have, so far:
1.
Played to over 6,000 people in George Square, Glasgow as
part of the Lord Provost week.
2.
Appeared at the Mean Fiddler in Dublin on 26th Feb 1999
with Mani as support DJ to an ecstatic 750 audience with
a further 600 trying to get into the venue.
3.
Had an incredible 130,000+ visitors to their website since
its launch date in 1998 from all over the world.
4.
Featured in the NME website on a couple of occasions, as
well as a full in-depth article on the BBC website.
5.
Featured in Q Magazine, March 1999 edition.
6.
Been visited at their gigs by the likes of Chris Helme and
Stuart Fletcher (ex-Seahorses), Rick Witter (Shed Seven),
Andy Rourke (ex-Smiths), Andy Couzens, Mani (ex-Stone Roses),
Clint Boon, Tom Hingley (ex-Inspiral Carpets), Shack and
many other great acts' members.
7.
Been included in a film about tribute bands worldwide, due
for release this year, called 'Mock Stars'. Other bands
featured are 'Bjorn Again' and 'Japanese Beatles' alongside
other tribute bands from around the globe.
8.
Completed 2 full national tours with Mani on board, the
first being 40 dates, the second being 30 - and both during
1999!
9.
Played alongside *Mani* on bass to a gob-smacked King Tuts
audience in Glasgow. The song was 'She Bangs The Drums'
and it has been the only time Mani has ever had the urge
to relive his Roses memories.
10.
Played in Dublin in all the top venues an incredible 6 times
in one year (1999). Considering there wasn't a venue capacity
under 800 with the biggest being 1,800, this was a great
achievement for the band and credit must go out to them
and the promoters for pulling it off.
11.
Performed acoustic versions of 'Tightrope' and 'Your Star
Will Shine' on BBC Choice program 'The 11th Hour'. This
was the first time these acoustic versions have ever been
played on national TV, not even the Roses themselves performed
them.
12.
On the 12th October 2000, the band played what has become
one of the best gigs they have ever done to date, due to
Ian Brown canceling his gig at the Point Theatre in Dublin
(10,000 capacity). The band were called upon to cover this
gig as it was too late to cancel, so, there they are in
the biggest venue in Dublin with 6,500 students rocking
to the sound of The Stone Roses with expressions that could
have painted a thousand pictures. What more can I say?
