Full Biography
Tom Rosenthal, an English actor, comedian, and writer, has established a notable career in television and stand-up comedy. He is best known for his television roles as Jonny Goodman in "Friday Night Dinner" (2011–2020) and Marcus Gallo in "Plebs" (2013–2022). "Friday Night Dinner," where Rosenthal played the younger son, became a significant hit, with the sixth and final series setting a record for the highest audience share for any comedy on Channel 4 or E4 among 16-to-34-year-olds, capturing a 49.3% share and an average audience of 3.9 million viewers. Both Rosenthal and his co-star Tamsin Greig have Jewish roots in real life.
In 2013, Rosenthal took on the role of Marcus in the ITV sitcom "Plebs," a comedy set in Ancient Rome that follows the misadventures of Marcus, Stylax, and Grumio. The series garnered a strong following and continued until 2020 when it was announced that, instead of a sixth series, a feature-length special would be released.
Rosenthal's creative ventures extend beyond acting. In 2014, he created and starred in a comedy pilot for BBC iPlayer with Naz Osmanoglu, titled "Flat TV," which was later commissioned into a mini-series. This project showcased his talent for both writing and performing in innovative comedic formats.
In addition to his sitcom roles, Rosenthal appeared briefly as Gary Thorp in the ITV drama series "Broadchurch" in 2015. His versatility as an actor was further demonstrated in 2019 when he played Private Pike in "Dad's Army: The Lost Episodes," a recreation of three missing episodes of the classic BBC sitcom "Dad's Army."
Rosenthal is also a celebrated stand-up comedian, having written and performed three shows. His third show, "Manhood," which he performed from 2019 to 2020, received critical acclaim at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, solidifying his reputation as a multifaceted performer in the world of comedy and television.
