Apollo Groove Perform For The Royal Wedding!

Apollo Groove entertained the masses of people who gathered in London's Hyde Park on Friday 29th April 2011 to be a part of the Royal Wedding celebrations. The event went down in history as the UK’s largest ever gig, with an audience of 300,000 people. Band singer, Sera Golding, shares the excitement of the day.

Our very own “Apollo Groove” entertained 300,000 guests at Hyde Park for the Royal Wedding on Friday 29th April. The band were the only band to perform for the masses of people who gathered in London’s Hyde Park to watch the celebrations, and they performed as their 10 piece line-up. The event went down in history as the UK’s largest ever gig.

The band were only booked to perform a 35 minute set, but went down such a storm that the first set was extended to 50 minutes, and they were then pulled back onstage for another half an hour! Performing hits like “Greatest Day” by Take That, “Forget You” by Cee Lo Green, and “Give it Up” by KC and the Sunshine band. The band were responsible for a thousand person-long conga line, and have made it onto the television coverage as far afield as Los Angeles and Australia!

“It was just such an honour” says Sera, singer from the band. “We just couldn’t believe that we were asked to be part of such a fantastically important day. It’s something we’ll never forget.”

The band have now written and recorded their own original single, dedicated to the big day, named “On This Day”. The single is available on iTunes now and has been rumoured to be outselling the more “official” soundtrack from the Welsh Guards! (Exciting stuff!)

“Obviously we’re a covers band first and foremost” explains Rachel, the bands other female vocalist, “but we just felt it was such a momentous occasion and it inspired us to write and record “On This Day”. We hope you enjoy it!”
