DJ Stuart H Sounds Even Better With Hi-Fi Cables!

One of our top DJs for hire, Stuart H has written a cool blog about his recent experience with Hi-Fi cabling and connectors! This one's an especially good read for the audiophiles amoungst us.

As a full-time, professional mobile DJ and Compere for almost five years, and for over twenty years previous to this as a part-time additional “job”. I have always had mixed feelings on what quality leads can add to my show.

A few years ago I dabbled with Hi-Fi mains leads - and I didn't find much noticeable improvement. That said, I have always had quality speaker and interconnect leads on my sound system.

A month ago I was browsing the internet and stumbled on what I would call, a little gem of a company!

Mains Cables 'R' Us (abbr. MCRU)

Looking at what can only be deemed a whole range of top quality Hi-Fi products way out of my price range - I discovered they had on a sale offer a one meter mains lead with IEC plug, 13A plug and fuse @ £10, for avid DIY-ers to assemble. I thought, why not - and added it to that week's shopping list.

MCRU

When delivered, the cable was a joy to view, and it took me in excess of 2 hours to carefully trim and assemble, as it was of substantial girth, and added to a single CD player. The first time I used this set-up at a gig, well, it blew me away. The sound seemed as though I had just purchased a £2,000 deck. It sounded 10x better than the £200 I had originally paid for the deck!

Wow, if this is possible using one RFI shielded lead with quality plugs, and wired to create a Faraday Cage Effect, (look it up) what will my other CD players and mixer sound like given similar treatment?

To cut a long story short, I have now added four new mains cables and plugs to my arsenal, including a 6 way mains distribution board / all self-assembled.

I love the new improved sound I now have. I just want to add 2 x 5 metre mains leads to my active speakers to create the overall effect - this will be as finances allow…...The icing on the cake.

Last weekend, I performed at a wedding anniversary for 80+ guests. The sound (to my ears) was sublime in the hotel function room I was in.

At the end of the night, most of the guests had left, and a distinguished gentleman approached me to thank me for a great evening of music, which was good for me to hear! However, he also briefly advised me that he was a hi-fi buff, and the sound that he had experienced was the best he had ever heard from a DJ's system!

That made my day.
