A Day In The Life Of Cheshire Harpist Oona Linnett

A Day In The Life Of Cheshire Harpist Oona Linnett

...An Amazing Wedding Harpist For Hire!

Oona is a Cheshire based harpist with many years experience. She was recently booked to play the harp at a wedding in Coventry. Oona shares her 'behind the scenes' account of the day in her photo diary. It can't be easy lugging an instrument of that size around!

On a sunny day in early January, I thought it might be interesting to make a little photo account of my day, including what it’s like “behind the scenes” for a gigging harpist. It’s not something that’s often seen! Here is the result.

Music room

Today I’m booked to play at a wedding reception at the Days Inn in Coventry. As the wedding reception isn't until later in the day, I have time for some practice in the morning. This is me in my music room at home.

Packing the car

It’s 3.00 pm and the harp is all packed up and ready to slide into the back of my Mondeo Estate (back seats down!)

Ready to set off

Harp and assorted paraphernalia are loaded, and it's time to go!

Arriving at the venue

5.00 pm, I've arrived at the Days Inn hotel in Coventry.  Time to unload it all now!

Unpacking

Harp unpacked, tidying away all the covers.  It won't look so much of a mess in a minute, honest!

Tuning the harp

This is one of the reasons I arrive so early to a gig.  I have 47 strings to tune, then I have to set up my amp and do a sound check.

Filming

I've changed into my concert dress, and the videographer has asked if he can do a quick bit of filming before the bridal party arrives...

OL Harpist performance

Guests arrive.  They relax, mingle and chat while I play.

With guests

The wedding photographer prepares two young guests for a photo shoot with the harpist!

Bride and groom

The bride and groom enjoying a little peace and calm before entering the wedding breakfast room to rapturous applause!

Oona and Jagdeep

Being thanked by the wedding co-ordinator, Jagdeep, for a job well done!  Now it's time to pack up and head home...

Arriving home

Back home.  It is nice to be greeted at the door by one's cat!
