On stage, without question the best covers band I have ever seen and heard. I have worked as a musician, technician, promoter and stage manager for nearly 30 years. I have managed rehearsal rooms and worked and toured with many known and unknown artists, 100's if not 1,000's of acts so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to ability and performance. In terms of how they sounded they are faultless, people came out of a venue local to the outdoor stage convinced that the live music must have finished and we were playing a CD through the PA until they saw ‘Riser' playing the songs for real. Top musicians, great vocals, and really knew how to work the crowd. To explain the background a bit, We are a small seaside town which is used to having the usual party bands at these events. You know the ones; line up like the Commitments and sing 'Mustang Sally' and 'Superstition' etc. I took a chance this year with something more contemporary to make it more of a 'festival' and sent a list of songs to the band in advance which were much heavier; Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Wheatus, Killers, Kings Of Leon etc. I also threw in a couple of party tunes in case the family audience didn't like the heavy set. 'Riser' judged it perfectly, starting with a few party tunes from bands like Maroon 5 and Walk The Moon to get the crowd on side and dancing, then they subtly moved through The Police and The Jam to get to Ocean Colour scene leading into the more Indie then Rock anthems. To see a 60 year old woman behind me singing along to Teenage Dirtbag (because the singer asked all the females to sing the girls part on the record) followed by 3,000 people of all generations bouncing up and down to Smells Like Teen Spirit was vindication of the chance we took by asking for this kind of set, and also testament to 'Riser' for the way the band pulled it off. Loads of great comments about the band since, and we are very, very happy.
