Full Biography
The Mancini String Quartet offers refined, elegant performances, tailored to each event with excellent customer service and competitive rates across the South. Their diverse repertoire spans light classical music, jazz standards, pop favourites and songs from the West End, making them suitable for almost any occasion.
The quartet was formed when its members met while studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Their aim from the beginning was to create an ensemble that could perform across musical genres rather than specialising in only one. With one of the members, Rustom Pomeroy, being a highly accomplished composer and arranger, they are able to provide bespoke string quartet versions of pieces not currently available in published form. This allows them to add a personal touch to weddings, receptions, dinners and private celebrations.
Their performance history is extensive. They have provided music for the Queen at her Jubilee celebrations, at the opening of the Millennium Bridge over the Thames, at the City of London Festival, for the Jersey Tourist Board, and at a variety of private parties, weddings and dinners. Individually, the quartet members have performed with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Their appearances on television and radio include programmes such as Strictly Come Dancing, Richard and Judy, Top of the Pops, CD UK, MTV, the Brit Awards, the MOBO Awards, Proms in the Park and Record of the Year. Their classical, pop and commercial experience features collaborations with artists such as Robbie Williams, Nigel Kennedy, Russell Watson, McFly, Pet Shop Boys, José Carreras, Meatloaf, Kanye West and Gareth Gates.
The Quartet is in demand for corporate functions, private parties and weddings, and can adapt both their repertoire and attire to complement the style of each event. They can provide elegant background music or take a more central role as entertainment, always aiming to enhance the atmosphere and suit the wishes of the host.
Clients sometimes wonder when and where the music should be included in an event, or what type of music is most appropriate. The Quartet’s advice is to begin with light classical pieces as guests arrive, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. As the event develops, the music can gradually include more popular and jazz selections, following the natural flow of the occasion. Music between courses is another opportunity to entertain your guests. Classical repertoire is recommended for smaller, more intimate dinners, while jazz, pop and show tunes are ideal during livelier gatherings. The Quartet can also perform selected solo pieces that may hold personal significance to the hosts.
Special requests for particular songs or pieces are welcomed and can be arranged for a small fee. Further details are available through your agent.
