Seasonal Wedding Ideas... to steal

Christmas Wedding Entertainment Ideas.

As festive nuptials become more popular, we asked some Christmas brides & grooms for their winter wedding entertainment tips…

Winter Wedding Christmas Cheer

Have a big serving of Christmas cheers.

Definitely embrace the fact that it’s Christmas. We went for it and created our own winter village outside our venue. We had steaming cups of mulled wine and hot chocolate in china cups on arrival, and had a roast chestnut cart along with a little gingerbread stall. Some Victorian style carol singers topped it all off. Now, every time I hear Christmas carols, I get butterflies!

Time it right

Don’t run out of daylight when you need it most! Book an early wedding ceremony so that you still have some light by the time you get out of the church. I’d say no later than 1pm so that you can make most of the daylight. We booked ours at 3pm and it was dark by the time we finished the ceremony.

Santa's Grotto

Invite Santa

Weddings can be a bit of a bore for kids – we included a surprise video message from Santa in the speeches ‘beamed direct from the North Pole’. He had ‘hidden’ a special sack of presents under the table for the children there. Believe me, it wasn’t just the kids that were excited!

Light Up Xmas Wedding

Be warm and cosy

As we had a smaller, intimate wedding, we wanted to make the most of the cosy, winter feel. We gave everyone Narnia-style (faux!) fur coats and took them outside, where everyone settled on squishy bean bags and had cocktails from the VW camper bar. For entertainment, we gave out rugs and star maps for star gazing, hired some amazing fire performers and then ended things with a chilled DJ set. Perfect.

Dance in the dark

The best bit about the dark night was that we could start our party early and really make the most of the live music. As it was Christmas, everyone was in the party mood. Our guests were really up for the band, who included loads of Christmas classics in their set. Singing along to a live performance of Fairytale of New York with my new wife, circled by our friends and family…well, it was easily one of the best moments of our day.

Winter Wedding Fireworks

Light it up & end with a bang

With the night's drawing in, we went all out with the lights. We used lots lanterns and tea lights to dress up the venue, had an open fire, used candles to light up walkways and decked out all of the trees with lots of fairylights. At the end of the night we had a bespoke firework display (that even matched out colour scheme)! I actually get a bit choked thinking of it now!! It was so magical.
