Full Biography

Hailing from North Wales, Botanybay comprises a quintet of skilled musicians adept at handling a diverse array of instruments. Among us, we wield a total of nine instruments, including guitar, fiddle, uke bass, bodhran, stomp, mandolin, banjo, whistles, and harmonica.

Our journey began as a duo in the year 2000, swiftly expanding to a five-piece ensemble within three years. This growth not only broadened our musical horizons but also enabled us to craft a rich and dynamic Celtic sound.

Our repertoire predominantly revolves around Irish and Celtic music, encompassing the traditional tunes of jigs, reels, and hornpipes, alongside beloved classics like "Whiskey in the Jar," "The Irish Rover," "Spancil Hill," and "Rattling Bog." We also infuse elements of contemporary flair with songs such as "Brown Eyed Girl," "Fisherman's Blues," and "Galway Girl." Moreover, we delve into Americana with renditions of tracks like "Wagon Wheel," "Copperhead Road," and "Ring of Fire."

Beyond our musical prowess, two of our members excel as dance callers, allowing us to seamlessly transition into Ceilidh performances when called upon.

Our musical journey has taken us far and wide, performing across the UK, various European ski resorts, the USA, Central America, the Caribbean, and even Greenland. With over 600 gigs under our belt, we've graced numerous private events, including weddings, corporate functions, and wakes. Additionally, we've been featured at esteemed festivals such as the Festival of the Celts, Acoustic Festival of Great Britain, and Hay on Wye Festival, as well as countless beer, food, and country festivals. And let's not forget the countless pubs, bars, and restaurants, both domestic and international, where we've entertained audiences with our spirited performances.
