Firewalk Team Challenge
Full Biography
Turn Your Team Into Firewalkers
Looking for a team-building experience your people will still be talking about years from now?
The Firewalk Experience takes your team on an unforgettable journey that ends with them walking barefoot across a glowing bed of fire. It’s real. It’s exhilarating. And it creates that rare shared moment of: “We actually did that!”
But there’s much more to the experience than simply walking across fire.
What Happens on a Firewalk?
Your event is delivered by an experienced team, with dedicated crews looking after participant training and the Firewalk itself.
Preparing for the challenge
While our Fire Team prepares the fire outside, your group takes part in a pre-walk experience led by Master Firewalk Leader Chris Jones. For corporate teams, this typically lasts around 90 minutes and can be tailored to your organisation, objectives and event.
Through motivational training, exercises, video and group interaction, participants explore how they respond to:
- Fear and uncertainty
- Perceived barriers
- Challenging situations
- Decisions outside their comfort zone
The aim is to help people approach the challenge ahead with confidence, commitment and decisive action.
Face the fire
As darkness falls, the fire is prepared into a glowing lane of wood embers. The first walk is typically three to four metres long. Participants who want to can walk again.
Each person takes on the challenge individually, but the team experiences it together. They watch. They encourage. They celebrate.
And then they do something many may have thought impossible just a couple of hours earlier.
Walking is always voluntary. Nobody is pressured to take part, and anyone who chooses not to walk can still support and celebrate alongside their colleagues.
Why Firewalking Works for Teams
The challenge feels real - because it is. Instead of another abstract team-building exercise, your people are confronted with something that looks intimidating and must decide how they’re going to respond. They share the nerves, anticipation, encouragement and celebrate each others success.
Firewalking is powerful for teams wanting to:
- Build confidence
- Strengthen relationships
- Celebrate an achievement
- Kick-start a new chapter
- Challenge limiting beliefs
- Energise an away day or conference
- Do something completely outside the normal working environment
A Firewalk can be a standalone team experience or a spectacular finale to a company away day, leadership programme, conference, or evening event.
More Than 500 Firewalks Delivered
Firewalk Team Challenge was founded in 2014 and has delivered more than 500 Firewalks. Events are led by founder and Master Firewalk Leader Chris Jones, a bestselling author and founder of TEDx Ealing who has spent more than a decade leading Firewalks across the UK.
Previous corporate clients include Tenzing, Norgine and Evertaste, alongside charities, schools and training programmes.
After its Firewalk, Tenzing described it as its: “Best ever monthly team event.”
Safety Comes First
Walking across burning embers naturally raises questions about safety.
That’s why professional preparation, participant training and event management are built into every Firewalk.
Every event includes:
- Compulsory pre-walk instruction
- An informed participant waiver
- A qualified first aider on site
- A written event risk assessment
- Public liability insurance of up to £10 million
- A trained Fire Team managing the build, burn and walking lane
Firewalk Team Challenge has an excellent safety record across hundreds of events. They use specially selected wood embers rather than mineral coal, and the Fire Team controls and monitors the Firewalk throughout the event. There is an inherent risk with an activity of this nature. Occasionally, a participant may experience a small blister - sometimes called a “firekiss”.
Bringing the Firewalk to You
You don’t necessarily need a specialist activity centre.
Firewalks can be staged at suitable venues across the UK, including:
- Grass areas
- Gardens
- Suitable car parks
- Corporate and event venues
Our team assess the proposed location beforehand and use specialist heat-resistant boards and turf where required to protect the ground. They bring the equipment, wood and specialist crew, build and manage the Firewalk, and clear the area afterwards.
The venue will need suitable vehicle access and access to water, and an indoor space is preferred for the participant training.
The perfect evening finale
Firewalks work particularly well towards the end of the day. While your team completes its training indoors, the fire is lit outside. Then, after darkness falls, they emerge to see the glowing Firewalk waiting for them.
For teams looking for a destination experience, Firewalk events can also be hosted in Miserden in the Cotswolds.
Make the Experience Your Own
Your Firewalk can be adapted around your event, team and objectives.
Additional options can include glasswalking, as well as photography, video, certificates and other event elements.
Whether you want to reward your people, energise a team, encourage colleagues beyond their comfort zones or create an away day nobody will forget, this is team building with a spectacular finale.
Your team arrives as colleagues. They leave knowing that, together, they just walked through fire.
