The Houghton weavers were formed in 1975 and played many
of the local folk clubs in their area. Shortly after making
their debut album they were invited to appear on BBC TV's
talent show "We'll call you". Within a couple
of months they were given their own 1/2 hour show "Sit
thi deawn". During their six successful series they
had the highest viewing figures in regional TV.
EMI
offered them a three album deal which found the Weavers
recording at the famous Abby Road Studios. A compilation
of these albums has been re-released several times by EMI
and is still selling well almost 20 years later.
The
Weavers have appeared on national televisions shows including
"Jim'll fix it", "This is your life"
for the BBC and "The video entertainers" for ITV.
Six
series on BBC 2 have led the Weavers to appear with such
notable artistes as Cannon and Ball, Ken Dodd, Rick Wakeman,
Mike Harding, Billy Connolly, Phil Cool, Jasper Carrot,
Norman Wisdom, Mick Miller, Stan Boardman and the list goes
on........
Over
the years they have appeared to packed audiences in such
prestigious venues as The Free Trade Hall, Manchester, The
Guild Hall, Preston, City Varieties, Leeds, Fairfields Halls,
Croydon & the Bristol Hippodrome. Sporting venues include
the inaugural Rugby League Challenge Cup in the Isle of
Man, Old Trafford, both cricket and football, Derbyshire
cricket club and community singing at the final match at
Burnden Park, the home of Bolton Wanderers FC. They have
