From the ranks of The Rob James Orchestra comes the RJO Trio. Designed to provide elegant and sophisticated background music the trio is the perfect choice for any event requiring a touch of class.



The Rob James Orchestra are a 13-piece swing orchestra widely respected for their professionalism and awe inspiring performances of swing classics.

This high level of musicianship and professionalism is now available in the form of the RJO Trio.

Featuring piano upright bass and tenor sax (doubling on flute) the trio is was formed by Matt McKay and Rob Nield 2 key members of The Rob James Orchestra.



After many years with the house bands aboard the world’s most luxurious cruise liners Rob Nield was offered the bass chair with the famous Joe Loss Orchestra. He has since gone on to write music for the likes of Limahl and Noel Sullivan from Hearsay and is heavily involved in big band arranging.

Matt McKay is currently principal flautist with the Household Guards at Buckingham Palace. If he’s good enough for the Queen…

Matt plays tenor sax and brings the haunting sound of the flute into the mix ensuring the trio are sensitive to events that require the music to be ‘in the background’.

The trio offer 2 x 45 minute sets of jazz standards and popular classics and are very flexible to suit different situations.

Ensemble options include quartet quartet with vocals (either male or female)

RJO Small Band (8 piece swing band) and the full Rob James Orchestra concert band (13 piece swing orchestra).
