Sax In The City

The trio is a group of professional musicians with decades of experience. Sax in the City excels at playing a distinctive and elegant range of jazz from their vast repertoire including composers such as Ellington Carmichael Gershwin and Cole Porter. Sax in the City also has the options of performing as a duo or as a quintet with or without optional vocals.

Tenor Saxophonist Julian has played with everyone from Shakin’ Stevens Gilbert O’ Sullivan to Gerry And The Pacemakers to the Eurythmics and in September 2003 played for the Rolling Stones at the end of their world tour party at Shepherd's Bush in London. He has toured with Mike D’abo and Mike Pender from Manfred Man and The Searchers and Brian Poole form the Tremolos. Julian has played on the QE2 and travelled to Singapore New Zealand and Australia as well as numerous performances in and around Europe playing his big smokey distinctive tenor sax sound. Recently Julian has played at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London supporting Van Morrison on the first leg of his UK tour. He continues to work with Gilbert O' Sullivan regularly touring Japan and Europe and played on the main ‘Pyramid’ and acoustic stages at Glastonbury 2008. Julian is playing with Gilbert at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2009 as part of his Autumn tour.

Julian is also a member of Shakin’ Stevens’ band as the horn section with fellow trumpet player Matt Holland (Matt played with Van Morrison’s band for 13 years). Shakey continues to tour all over the world and UK also playing on the ‘Pyramid’ stage at Glastonbury 2008. Most recently Julian played with Shaky and the band on ITV’s  ‘Dancing On Ice’ programme on Xmas 2008 day at 8pm closing the whole show with a knock out performance of ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ one of Shakey’s four number one hits!

Pianist Simon Whiteside has produced the film orchestrations for the recent film 'Kingdom of Heaven' directed by Ridley Scott. Simon has also produced the jazz arrangements for the Most Mysterious Murders on BBC 1. He continues to write arrange and play for numerous jazz outfits in and around the Capitol and for the BBC.

Bassist Julian Bury has played with Paul McCartney at the Cafe du Paris in London. Recently he has been seen playing sophisticated jazz on BBC 1's Holby City. Julian has appeared on Top of the Pops 2 playing bass with Gilbert O'Sullivan. Julian is a well respected bass player comfortable with everything from be-bop to jazz standards can regularly be seen in jazz clubs in and around London from Ronnie Scotts to the 100 Club.

These musicians have played with the likes of Paul McCartney Van Morrison Shakin’ Stevens, Gilbert O’ Sullivan, Eurythmics, and Jimmy James and The Vagabonds as well as regular jazz residencies in London.

Sax in the City has played at events such as Henley Regatta, Ascot and many celebrity functions at the Dorchester.
