Los Gatos is formed of five talented professional musicians from Latin America and the UK who share a passion for latin music. Each one brings their own experience and background to the music resulting in truly unique arrangements and performances.

Based in London UK the band performs an eclectic repertoire of authentic latin musical styles from steamy argentine tango and melancholic yet playful brazilian choro to cool cuban charanga.

Los Gatos provides music for weddings functions and parties, as well as live concerts. Repertoire and line-up are carefully selected to suit your requirements, whether you are looking for background music, music to dance to, or a concert performance.

The full line-up consists of flute, violin/mandolin, guitar, double bass/electric bass and percussion, a combination which is perfectly suited to the original forms of all the music we play.

The band has come together because each member loves the music they play, and is committed to producing authentic performances, while delighting and entertaining audiences with Latin genres that are relatively new to the UK audience, despite being around 100 years old.

Los Gatos performs three distinct styles of music, each suitable for the different moods of an event.

Choro music from Brazil, features beautiful melodies on mandolin and flute and counter melodies on guitar with subtle, soothing percussion. Choro is excellent as background or concert music and it should be prescribed on the NHS for its great humour and spirit!

Tango is well known for its dance and Los Gatos’ music is of course danceable if you are so inclined! However tango melodies are incredibly enchanting and coupled with sultry rhythms this music provides great atmosphere and background or stimulating listening.

Cuban Charanga is essentially early salsa music, with violin instead of trumpets. Percussion is more evident here than Choro or Tango, as are incredibly funky basslines. The overall effect is lively, happy party music – extremely danceable but more folky and subtle than your average salsa band.

Previous Experience
Individual members have performed as band members for Alive network (Alan Pagan, Mike Gerogiades).

Rosie Lowdell has performed at all the major concert halls in the UK with top symphony orchestras, toured the USA with London City Opera, and also has played as part of a string quartet for many weddings and functions. Mauricio Velez has performed at many prestigious venues including the London Jazz Festival, and Enrique Galassi has most recently performed with his tango quintet at all the latin American embassies in London.
