Band Biographies
Rory (piano) 
A professional player with some 25 years of gigging experience, Rory has played with a huge range of bands and styles over the years both in the UK and abroad, including touring France with a Blues Brothers Tribute Band, four years as musical director of the twenty-piece ‘Skyliners’ Swing Band in the Middle East and numerous stints with jazz, funk and fusion bands, including performances at jazz festivals in Bahrain, London and Oxford. 

He has also built a reputation as an accomplished solo pianist and accompanist for singers, as well as an arranger, composer and musical director for the theatre, including productions of ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘The Full Monty’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. With the trio he gets a chance to showcase both his arranging talents and his fine technique and melodic skills as an improviser.

Rory is also available to play solo piano, where as well as all the great jazz standards he can also deliver a wide range of pop and rock classics, songs from the shows and so on – requests are welcome!

Paul (bass)
Paul brings a wide spectrum of musical influences to his playing from rock, jazz and blues to classical. An inventive and lyrical player known for his superb sense of time and musicality, he appears regularly with a wide range of musical ensembles including Gypsy Fire, 3bpm, the Frank Hockney Project, DOME, Rob Terry Trio, Sophie Garner Jazz Project and fusion/groove quartet ‘Upwatt’. 

A respected player on the national jazz scene, he has performed with some of the leading names in British jazz including Art Themen, Anita Wardell, Alan Barnes, Tommaso Starace, Tina May, Juliet Kelly, Nicolas Meier, Frank Harrison, Elisa Caleb, Steve Waterman and Roger Beaujolais.

Frank (drums)
Frank is a professional drummer with over 30 years experience in a wide range of styles.  He has recorded albums with Red, The Shiny Men, Paul Reynolds, Martin Pickett Quintet, Doug Hodge, Tim Wilson, Theo Jackson and recently released his first CD as band leader/writer, ‘Tempus Incognitum’.

He has also worked/recorded with leading figures such as John Etheridge, Robert Wyatt, Ian Ellis, Steve Waterman, Brandon Allen and many others.  

One of the most in demand ‘all round’ drummers in the area, Frank is equally happy in small jazz groups, big bands or funk/ rock bands, and has a reputation for precision and an encyclopedic knowledge of drum styles, in particular Afro Cuban rhythms.

Note; If the drummer or bass player are unavailable, then we have reserve players of the highest professional calibre who have played with the trio before and can match the standard set by Frank or Paul. Pianist Rory McInroy is never replaced.

James (vocals)
The warm, rich vocals of James have graced the theatre stage many times for leading roles in many shows, including major productions of 42nd Street,  Chess, Oklahoma, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls and The Producers, as well as being a featured soloist with the Oxford Gospel Choir last year at a national event at the Royal Festival Hall. 

His repertoire encompasses many of the great American songbook standards, as sung by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, as well as material from Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Georgie Fame and many others.

Accompanied by the superb First Edition Trio, James can create a wonderful backdrop to your event with smooth jazz standards, or step things up for dancing if required.
