Elegant StringsA mature quartet offering great vesatility and sensitivity. They have been playing as a group since 1994 and also work as freelance players with professional midland orchestras.

Elegant Strings pride themselves on the quality of their playing and the vastness of their repertoire. Their arrangements are as near to the originals as possible and very carefully selected so as not to dumb down. The quartet love playing 'real music' and are happy to play to connossieurs.
Quartet leader Suzie has built up a library of film, pop and show music which the group love to play. They are always on the look out for 'Feel Good' music as well as the romantic songs.

Wendy (Violin)
Wendy was born in Birmingham into a musical family.She played regularly at local music festivals and went on to lead the local youth orchestras.She studied violin and piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, gaining performance and teaching diplomas. In 1990 she became a member of the 1st violins of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. After leaving to start a family in 2000, Wendy now freelances in the midlands and is a member of the CBSO Little Big Time Band playing keyboards. She is also actively involved in the CBSO education programme leading workshops in primary schools, and enjoys playing 1st violin regularly with Elegant Strings.
Diane (Flute)
Aswell as being principal flute of Orchestra of the Swan, Birmingham Opera Company and Mid Wales Opera, she has also performed with other leading orchestras and ensembles including City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
She is involved in many education and outreach projects and loves playing for weddings and functions.
Cathy (violin)
Cathy studied at the Royal College of Music and went on the play in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. She now freelances with them and also plays with the Birmingham Royal Ballet and other groups in the Midlands. She teaches at the Junior Conservatoire in Birmingham. She loves playing for weddings and functions and has played with Elegant Strings for many years.
George (violin)
George lives in Leominster and plays frequently with Elegant Strings. He started his career with the Covent Garden Opera orchestra and now plays regularly with the English String Orchestra and as soloist with local orchestras. He loves playing flashy violin solos and can be heard warming up with Paganini Caprices!
Neil (Viola)
Neil grew up in Derbyshire. He read music at the University of Leeds, studying the viola with Roger Kelly. He subsequently took a post-graduate course at the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied with Roger Best and Louise Williams.
His professional free-lance activities have taken him throughout the UK and Europe, working with the English String Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Ulster Orchestra and the orchestra of English National Opera.
Suzie Walden (Cello)
Formerly a full-time cellist in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the orchestra of Opera North in Leeds, she has played for BBC radio and television, CBSO and BSO. Currently free-lancing with various chamber orchestras and teaches in the Malvern area. She takes great pride in managing the string quartet and particularly enjoys the variety of music that is available to them'
The quartet is run from a collective of musicians, due to the popularity of it's performers so, occasionally members may change without notice.
