"Just a note to thank you so much for playing at our wedding - you set up so quietly I was almost worried you hadn't made it and everyone was so impressed when the curtain went back and the music started. The last song of the night was a moment I shall never forget and Daydream Believer will now be a firm favourite!

Checkmate's Biography

Line up: 4 Piece Band 2 x female vocal, Drum/percussion/vocal, piano/ keyboards/vocal.

Highlights
* Female-led lazz, pop, latin and ballroom band
* Many many satisfied clients from weddings and corporate events
* Lead vocalist Alison was the singer on the Orient Express!
* 2.5k PA and small lighting rig as standard
* Based in the North but available throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Europe
* Requests taken prior to event.

Ideal as a subtle accompaniment for drinks receptions or over dinner, Checkmate perform old and new easy listening songs as well as upbeat swing, latin, soul and pop for dancing.

The four piece band consists of female lead vocals, an additional female backing singer, drums/latin percussion and piano/keyboards.

Previously working with bands such as Ray McVay and The Joe Loss Orchestra has given Checkmate invaluable experience in playing for ballroom dancing. The bands Latin percussion specialist is always in demand, giving accuracy and authenticity to Samba`s, Cha Cha`s, Rhumba`s and Salsa`s as featured in BBC`s Strictly Come Dancing.

Band leader and professional singer/vocal coach, Alison has worked with her current Musical director/pianist for the last 10 years. Previously she has worked as both a solo vocalist and with bands throughout England, Europe and the Middle East, sometimes in the same evening when she was the singer on the Orient Express.
